Build quality is good.
Battery life seems pretty good.
Range is only about 1km in city areas.
Power isn't 5 Watts. Other sites say 3 Watts.
I suspect this radio has a number of functions I'm not aware of, but the Chinese manual doesn't explain them.
I used Kenwood software to change voice prompts to English from Chinese.
ie. A voice calls numbers 1-16, to tell you what channel you're on - without having to look at the dial. This is handy but annoying in the default, Chinese language. Much better once changed into English.
The program from Kenwood is KPG87D.
I purchased a cable from eBay - think it also uses a Kenwood pin configuration.
For the price, these are great for short range uses, say 1km in city areas, more in open spaces - haven't tested that yet.
Sound is clear and loud, once set up (say with channel prompts announced in English), this is an easy to use, low fuss product.
For me however, I need greater range so am looking at higher powered models, even though more bulky.
