Good PCI Card. Cheep. Working Fine. – Silicon Image 4-Port SATA PCI Expansion Card Reviews

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

Pros:
Very cheep card, with supports to several RAID settings and will supports 750Gb or larger HD after firmware upgrade done using DOS.
Cons:
1. Did not work at the first time. It was not well plugged into the PCI slot. After some pressure over the PCI board the card has been recognize during boot.
2. During first boot under VISTA the system hangs during the Automatic Driver install.
3. The CD that comes with the RAID utility was unreadable in my DVD. Need to use my laptop to access that. But the CD is not necessary. Windows will recognize and download the correct driver.
Other:
As soon as it is working you will see a POST screen during BOOT asking you to press <F4> to configure the RAID. After Windows download the Driver everything goes smoothly.
Bottomline:
Build quality could be better, but for this price is understandable. Very Cheep. Very useful. Will give for your OLD PC some storage instead of purchase a new mother board. A very good choice.
