Freshen up your clothes with one of these!

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - It works! It saves clothes that tend to accumulate lint. - Leaves no lint behind after a few passes. Some clothes start looking as good as new. - The lint compartment is large and thus you don't need to empty it often. Just open it when you are done.
    Cons:
    - Build quality is imperfect. Batteries are difficult to put in. Does not accept AAA batteries disguised as AA batteries in a...

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - It works, and it works well. - Looks solid, nothing falls out. - Melts glue well, can be used to glue things in difficult places.
    Cons:
    - Takes a lot of time to heat up, but it's not a problem for me at all (but may be for some impatient people). - When the glue...

    Great cable ties.

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Can be used to hold together bunches of cables of various sizes, big and small. - Bright and easily discernible even in the dark. - Velcros hold cables well, do not detach by themselves. - Despite the above, they are easy to lock and unlock. I did it ...

    Good camera.

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Works perfectly without any sort of configuration on Linux (tried Debian, but I'm sure it will work on other Linuces as well). - Cheap. You can't find anything like that for $8.80 in Russia. - Despite the above, didn't break after a couple of hours. S...
    Cons:
    - The clip is useless for most LCD monitors (I tried three and it couldn't hold on any of them). You have to use an adhesive.

    Great cable.

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - It does what it says, that is, works as a USB to mini-USB adapter. - Small length, huge advantage over regural (1m+) cables if your bag is small. Even if it is big, you can drop one there and forget about it, as it weights almost nothing. - Consequentl...

    Good with a major quirk.

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Stick well to a flat clean surface when facing top. - Able to hold a bunch of cables without them falling out.
    Cons:
    - The paper cover is extremely hard to detach. I ruined one holder trying to get the paper cover off - it came off with the st...

    Not for all devices.

posted by Arefiev on 08/06/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Cable is retractable, which makes the device very compact. It extends and retracts reliably (or at least I couldn't make it fail right away).
    Cons:
    - Mini-usb and micro-usb connectors cannot be attached to devices which have their ports in a notch (even 1 mm deep) which limi...

    Good kitchen scales.

posted by Arefiev on 08/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Good, reliable build. It feels like cheap plastic, but so do all other kitchen scales, so this is not an issue. - Reasonably accurate. Useless for laboratory work that requires any sort of accuracy, but you don't need d < 0.0001 in the kitchen. For...

Useful cases if you stock lots of AAA's.

posted by Arefiev on 08/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Do their job. That is, they really do convert AAA batteries to AA size. - Very easy to use. Just put your battery into one half and close it with the other. Mind the polarity though. - Don't worry if halves of different cases mix up, they fit togethe...
    Cons:
    - Not a perfect recreation of the AA form-factor. The bottom contact (negative) is behind the rim of the casing. - Due to the...

    Not the best one.

posted by Arefiev on 08/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Cheap. - The temperature range is great, which makes it suitable for simple lab uses (oil or silicone baths for example). You can also measure temperature in your freezer. - Has no breakable parts. Drop it all you want.
    Cons:
    - The metal probe is massive, and it mostly measures outside temperature. E. g. if you submerge ½ of its length in boilin...
