One of the best 1xAA lights under $25

posted by Caleo on 06/11/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
3 programmable modes + mode memory (see thread on bottom of product page to see how to program), Q5 LED (tiny but awesome emitter = easy to focus for a good beam) reasonably smooth output (no major reflector artifacts), square threads (won't strip/cross-thr...
    Cons:
Clip feels cheap and would probably break off in a hurry (I took mine off). Switch was pretty hard to push, but I fixed that by...

    Different than advertised

posted by Caleo on 02/23/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Spiffy box. Decent/rustic finish that doesn't really seem out of place anywhere you put it.
    Cons:
    - Poor build quality.. the pieces don't really fit together well & rattle. - Different than advertised. Mine didn't have th...

    Was expecting more for $15

posted by Caleo on 06/13/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    - The anodizing looks & feels fantastic - No battery-rattle - Well sealed.. I have absolutely no fear of putting it in a glass of water and leaving it overnight.
    Cons:
(the first two cons knock build quality down to 2/5 for me.. the fantastic anodizing and good seal keep it from getting a 1/5) ...

    It works..

posted by Caleo on 04/23/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    - It's accurate - The mirror is made out of plexi or something, so it'll bend instead of break.
    Cons:
I expected this compass to be hinged instead of relying on bendy plastic as hinges. I suspect with use, the 'hinge' will eventu...

    Almost *too* good.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
This thing is ridiculously bright. Indoor usage should be limited (even looking at the dot without any sort of protection may cause damage). It's got a nice weight to it, and feels like a very high quality laser (aside from the two build quality issues list...
    Cons:
Button shakes/rattles & the threads could be smoother (cleaning them out and putting some silicon grease on them helps some...

    Great/cheap magnifier

posted by Caleo on 03/17/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
The one I received has a superb lens.. no scratches, no noticeable distortion.. and a great price.. the steel casing protects the lens from damage.
    Cons:
The casing feels kinda cheap... but that doesn't really matter.

    Not bad

posted by Caleo on 03/17/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Not best in any of the 3 functions, but for being a jack of all trades (flashlight/uv/laser), it's pretty nice. The laser dot is well focused (although the diode isn't really aligned with the device's case), the UV LEDs work well, and the LEDs light up well.
    Cons:
Build quality. I strongly advise against unscrewing the head of the light. The way it's configured uses a bunch of small wires ...

    Handy little knife

posted by Caleo on 01/04/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    - Sharp & serrated: 2/2 I bought were sharp enough to shave with. - Small, light & compact.. this would make a fantastic every-day carry.. probably no heavier than a few coins in your pocket. In my opinion, being so small makes it a non-threatening ...
    Cons:
    - Not easily opened with 1 hand due to the fact that it closes so securely. Loosening the blade-screw won't do much (if anythin...

    Nifty little fixed-blade knife

posted by Caleo on 01/04/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    - Came sharp (though not sharp enough to shave with) - Looks fantastic - Seems like great build quality (aside from the finish - see cons) - Balance is great.. the balance point on this knife is right around the finger ridges, and easily balances on your in...
    Cons:
    - Finish.. the black finish on the blade gets mucked up by the case :(

    Not bad

posted by Caleo on 01/04/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    - Came sharp as heck (sharp enough to shave with) - Nearly all metal construction (the black handle is aluminum, over what looks to be some type of steel) - Feels like a tank
    Cons:
    - Heavy & large. I wouldn't want to carry this daily. Sure, it's a good heavy feeling, but I don't like unnecessary weight....
