Work just fine. Worth the money

posted by DonaldM on 12/21/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
A fraction of the price of the official ones. My ears can't tell the difference between them and any others. But then I do have quite loud tinnitus. They work with my MacBook Pro as well. The volume control feels larger than the original one. It also feel...
    Cons:
They'd be more comfortable if they came with the foam covers that some do.

    Quite clever design

posted by DonaldM on 12/21/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It costs almost nothing. The design is in my opinion rather clever. Comes with a screwdriver and the usual twin headed cable. Data transfer rate is the same as all such devices, I can't tell any difference in copy times for any USB adapter.
    Cons:
None I can think of unless you want to use a drive that isn't 9.5mm thick (As just about all of them are)

Works, doesn't cost all that much

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
If you need to feed 12V at 5A to something, this will get the job done for not much money. Very much less expensive and lighter and smaller than linear transformer devices that do the same thing. If the plug polarity or size isn't suitable it is trivial to ...
    Cons:
It is a switch mode design so will produce some radio frequency output which may, or may not, matter to you. The other side of...

    It's a puffer!

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
It blows air in your chosen direction. It does it well enough. If you are perverse you can squeeze it, insert the neck into a pipette and use it as a pipette pump. But it is for blowing air in a chosen direction. This it does just fine. Physics makes it ...
    Cons:
It could be bigger - it isn't as big as I thought it'd be.

    It cuts SIMs

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
It cuts down a standard sized SIM to Micro-SIM size for use in a lot of current phones (iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy S3 and so on). Makes a clean cut which is rather important, and does so reliably. Just make sure your SIM is properly positioned in it - this...
    Cons:
Just make sure your SIM is positioned correctly in the cutter - cut it wrong and it isn't going to be a lot of use to anyone af...

    I get these 100 at a time

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Over the years I must have bought and given away more than a thousand of these. Every keychain round me has one of these on it. As do a lot of zip pulls. They are also useful when locked on for attaching to dog collars. They keep on working even after the...
    Cons:
Only downside is that I wish CR2016 cells had more capacity. About three hours' continuous running and they are too dim to be u...

It takes a 2.5" disk and works

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
It's not expensive at all. It works, it takes the now less common parallel ATA drives. If your drive is larger than around 200GB then this probably isn't for you. Even without using the case it is a handy way of attaching a 2.5" PATA drive to USB. C...
    Cons:
For modern laptop drives this will be of no use at all - all of them are SATA, not parallel ATA these days.

Micro-USB connectors and desk stands don't go together

posted by DonaldM on 11/16/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Useful to be able to drop the phone into a cradle at night. Fits nicely and stays there fine in a non-moving scenario.
    Cons:
When this thing gets knocked the phone is going to fall out - hopefully with no damage to the phone. One of my dogs (The quiet ...

    Not bad at all

posted by DonaldM on 05/22/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Seems well enough made though not as nice as the large version. Camouflage finish is a matter of taste, but it backs out nicely with a black Sharpie marker and five minutes. Nicely holds all of my P60-type lights, Ultrafire/Uniquefire/Solarforce L2 18650 li...
    Cons:
This design won't work so well with lights with clips though it is OK with the Ultrafire WF-502B either bezel up or bezel down.

Not sure what fits in it

posted by DonaldM on 05/22/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Seems to be pretty well made. It has reasonably stiff construction. Velcro and snap buttons so the cover shouldn't come off unless you want it to. Belt loop also held by velcro and snap button so ought to be pretty secure.
    Cons:
I thought this would take the Ultrafire C2/C8 and all the other lights that use that body. It doesn't. The flap won't go over t...
