Good replacement driver for single-cell XM-L light

posted by JoshL on 03/21/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Good Multi-Mode driver for single-cell XM-L lights. No mode memory, in this case a pro! Driver always starts in a very useful Medium, second click goes to Low, while a third goes to High. This configuration means that it is not necessary to cycle between th...
    Cons:
Driver still has the annoying Strobe/SOS modes. Driver also has visible PWM on medium and low modes.

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Purchased these to use in my Tank007 TK-703. This battery makes the light MUCH brighter than with standard AAA cells.
    Cons:
These cells are listed as protected but I believe the cells I received are not. I have compared against a standard AAA cell and...

    Nice cheap pocket light.

posted by JoshL on 12/28/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Useable brightness - great for house at night with lights out, working inside computers, etc. Small size/light weight - easy to drop in a pocket and forget. Clicky switch - recessed so not likely to accidentally turn on in your pocket but easy to use when n...
    Cons:
Switch is not sealed - easy for dust and pocket lint to enter switch. After just a couple of days of pocket carry, the switch d...

    Nice Dedicated Thrower

posted by JoshL on 12/27/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This is a very nice thrower. It has a very focused spot with a small amount of spill which makes it slightly more versatile than an aspheric model. Runs bright off of a pair of CR123A.
    Cons:
Second mode is worthless and just adds an extra click when you want to turn the flashlight off. Tailswitch is recessed making ...

    Fun but can be messy!

posted by JoshL on 12/27/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Very neat effect! Put the TINY packet of powder into a large glass, add water, and it swells to overfill the glass. The powder will expand into a heaping pile that will cover a large plate. Once expanded, the 'snow' can be packed and formed. It can also be ...
    Cons:
Can be messy! The expanded 'snow' particles tend to stick to anything they touch so it can become kind of messy. You probably w...

Too many problems to make it a keeper

posted by JoshL on 12/13/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Functions well, reasonable transfer speed, reads MS Pro Duo-type memory.
    Cons:
Pro Duo memory card fits flush into reader and is very difficult to remove. No obvious keying/labling to assist in making sure...

Great reflector for a Mag Modification!

posted by JoshL on 12/13/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Gives good combination of flood/throw when used with 3x R2 LEDs. Size fits common 3D mag head with a little bit of sanding down.
    Cons:
Slightly large for Mag Mod without minor modification. Reflective surface is easy to scratch/fog/wear away.

    Great Remote for a HTPC

posted by JoshL on 07/12/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
No setup was needed on my HTPC running WinXP and Media Player Classic. All major functions work making it much easier to watch my videos without getting up and walking across the room and trying to watch on the TV screen while I make changes. The range is g...
    Cons:
The mouse function is a little weird, as others have noted. It is difficult/impossible to move the pointer in a straight line, ...

Great price on a great product!

posted by JoshL on 07/12/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Melts and flows very easily! Makes tinning leads and soldering components very easy. Comes in a jar making it easy to apply small amounts with a toothpick. Great price!
    Cons:
Gets crusty with time. There is no way I will ever use this much soldering paste before it goes bad, but at this low price, I c...

Compact flashlight great for pocket carry

posted by JoshL on 07/12/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Extremely small. Compact enough to drop into a pocket so that you have a flashlight with you wherever you go! Surprisingly bright light; bright enough for emergency use and for use at typical walking/working distances.
    Cons:
Mine took an unexpected roll off the side of a desk onto a hard floor after a couple of months of use and ended up with the bli...
