    Good version has springs

posted by Kamikazi on 01/25/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Charges fairly fast and does two cells in parallel. Charging LED changes from red to green when both cells are fully charged. Cells are charged in parallel, so they always finish at the same time even if they were not originally in the same charge state.
    Cons:
If you have the version with springs it will do both protected and regular cells with no problem. There is also a version with ...

Not perfect, but well worth the price

posted by Kamikazi on 10/03/2011 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Solidly built. It looks more expensive than it is. It seems to hold zero pretty well on a 9mm carbine under normal conditions. Shooting off a rigid rest will knock it off sometimes, but that is true of almost any inexpensive optic. The battery will last fo...
    Cons:
Both the red and green dots are on the large side. The dots will almost completely cover the 6 inch rifle target at 50 yards. T...

Excellent hands free headlamp at a great price

posted by Kamikazi on 12/12/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Very long battery life - powered by a generic 18650 cell of unmarked capacity. Two power levels - lower level extends runtime but is still plenty bright enough to be useful. Charger LED changes color from red to yellow to green. You can easily tell when t...
    Cons:
Battery is hard wired. Not practical to change out battery when it dies. Sticker with Chinese writing all over it - but can be...

Good things come in small packages

posted by Kamikazi on 12/12/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Very powerful in high mode - looks to be at least 200 lumens. Long battery life in low mode (well over an hour tested and still going strong) Florescent green tailcap clicky button Glass lens Can stand on end (use it like a candle) True memory mode Us...
    Cons:
Not many cons. This light has just about every feature you could want for a low price. I don't find the strobe mode particular...

    Bright

posted by Kamikazi on 11/20/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Extremely bright for a torch of this size. Decent machining and anodizing. Ability to use both 18650 or CR123A cells. Lanyard Assault crown
    Cons:
When using CR123A cells the battery life is quite short and the flashlight will overheat and sometimes shutdown in less than 5 ...

    Deserves more attention

posted by Kamikazi on 05/03/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Typical excellent MXDL machining quality. Battery holder seems to be made of good quality plastic. Uses standard (triple) AAA cells which are available everywhere. The emitter is of unknown origin (not marked) but is very bright. Beam quality is much better...
    Cons:
No regulator circuit - just a current limiting resistor. No lanyard. The hole in the reflector is a larger than necessary to ac...

    Lithium power !

posted by Kamikazi on 04/22/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Seems to deliver the advertised power out of the box. But initially it was noticeably weaker than my DX True 30 (which is way under-rated - being almost 50mw with no modifications) Anti-reflective coating on lens should increase light output slightly. Po...
    Cons:
Took almost 2 months to arrive! No presentation case or batteries included. The output does seem to decrease quite a bit with e...

Great module for DVD burner diodes

posted by Kamikazi on 04/11/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
If you are looking for a module to build a DVD burner diode based laser pointer, this is a good value. I like this better than the AixiZ module because it has a metal focusing ring on the lens, whereas the AixiZ does not. The threads on the lens feel tighte...
    Cons:
None really. Build quality isn't perfect, but for the price, what can you expect ?

    Fast and cheap

posted by Kamikazi on 04/11/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Charges at approx 600mah. Full recharge of depleted 800mah cells in less than 2 hours. Cheap price. No bells or whistles, but what else do you really need?
    Cons:
Protected cells are difficult to install, and even more difficult to remove. I found that a strip of heavy plastic (I used a st...

Good value, but QC is variable

posted by Kamikazi on 03/12/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
The output on some of them is higher than 5mw. (some may consider that a con, rather than a pro) Two of the ones I got had at least 10 to 15mw peak output. Mechanical construction very solid.
    Cons:
I ordered three of these for our astronomy club and all had small, but different flaws. QC is inconsistent. But at this price, ...
