    Very poor wuality

posted by MicrowaveDave on 11/02/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This cable looked OK at first until I tried to use it for anything. The cable thickness is decent which makes it unlikely to tangle if thrown in a backpack with other cables. However, read the Cons below.
    Cons:
This cable is absolute rubbish! The tolerances on the plugs are terrible. They are not in fact 3.5mm plugs, they are 3.4mm, s...

    That's not a cable - THIS is a cable!

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It's difficult to see in the photo, but the plugs on this cable are huge! It almost looks like one of those old 6.5" phono plug patch cables they used to use on manual telephone exchanges. The cable is very thick and difficult to tangle, so it's perf...
    Cons:
The plugs are rather large, so some headphones or mobile phones with recessed sockets will not work with this cable. At first ...

    Much better than a sponge!

posted by MicrowaveDave on 03/09/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
I saw this woolly looking ball of what looked like steel wool (it's not steel wool! Steel wool can burst into flames if you heat it so don't try to substitute it!) and ordered it purely out of curiosity. However now I'm hooked, it keeps my iron tips cleane...
    Cons:
It seems that this is a disposable commodity. A sponge can last for years because any dried solder can be scraped off and the ...

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Very bright dual LEDs! Very light construction so can carry it without noticing the extra weight.
    Cons:
I bought two and one button is soft but the other a bit harder to press. Construction quality of each key chain will vary slig...

Works OK in Australian power socket

posted by MicrowaveDave on 03/06/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
The two parallel power prongs are in fact designed to be rotated 45 degrees if necessary, so they fit the 45 degree Australian power sockets. They can be rotated both ways, so the plug can point up from the socket or hang down. The device can also turn thi...
    Cons:
The two side sockets are useless in Australia and many countries with wide plugs. No ground connector either, so won't work sa...

Works well with Mac OS X and external hard drive

posted by MicrowaveDave on 03/06/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Works beautifully with Mac OS X, at full USB 2 speed. It is an extension cable, so if you add a standard USB A-B 2 metre cable you have a total of 7 metres of USB cable. It even worked well using a 2 metre extension cord and a 1 metre A-B cord for a tota...
    Cons:
The USB socket seemed to be very loose, and the plug kept falling out. After inspection I found two small problems: 1 There wa...
