    Affordable Xenon light

posted by Peterlm on 07/09/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
This just arrived in the post. The heat from the beam can be felt on the skin a foot away. It is bright with a huge beam spot and an even bigger useable spill. Have yet to test how long the 18650s last.
    Cons:
The bulb has 2 long spots of thermal glue on the sides of the glass and smoke is emitted from this just after 30 seconds of use...

    Small powerful laser

posted by Peterlm on 06/01/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Just received this unit 30 minutes ago and tested on black garbage bags. The laser punches through thin garbage bags at a distance of 6 inches within 1-2 seconds. The material gives out smoke and a hole is punched through. Briefly tested on thicker black...
    Cons:
A little under expectation on its 100mW ability.

2nd unit and quality getting better

posted by Peterlm on 05/28/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
This is my second unit and the quality seems to get better! The tight hotspot is about 1.5 times brighter than my previous unit. The tail cap threads are also lubricated and does not give out the shrill annoying high pitched screeching sound when it is sc...
    Cons:
Price could be cheaper and the manufacturer could use either a Q5 or R2 bin Cree instead of the lower lumen output P4.

    Different antenna shipped

posted by Peterlm on 05/28/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Tested indoors with a handy talk proved it worse than the standard supplied antenna with the handy talky. SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) was at 2.5 which is about equivalent to the Handy Talky supplied antenna.
    Cons:
The picture shown is with a centre loading coil but the antenna shipped to me was just a straight 14cm long element.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
These arrived fully charged. Tried charging them but the were already full. These are made up of the same composition as the LiFeSO4 batteries. The full charged voltage is about 3.6V but will drop to a stablized voltage about 3.45V after sitting a day on...
    Cons:
Yet to see any since its just been charged up.

Cheap charger but changes manufacturers regularly

posted by Peterlm on 04/30/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Just received 3 of these 2 days ago but was so tied up in the office that I didnt test them. Just managed to get some time after work to test these out. Found out 1 unit wasnt working as the green LED would not turn red which means it wasnt detecting the ...
    Cons:
Either the manufacturer is outsourcing its manufacturing to many suppliers or its redesigning its internals. Either way, this ...

    Great small little bright light

posted by Peterlm on 01/01/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Great little bright light in a small package. The quality is quite good and the zoomed beam is really bright and is 3x brighter than an R2's hotspot beam. The zoomed out beam is nice and round and the spill is very even.
    Cons:
The frog eye optics is made of some plastic material but is not PMMA. The light permeability would probably be so much better ...

Great battery case for 16340 and 18650 cells

posted by Peterlm on 12/16/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Its a great battery case for 16340 and 18650 cells and prevents the cells from shorting when thrown into a bag or into the pants pocket. Have been looking for these for a long time and only now available at DealExtreme.
    Cons:
The plastic hinge is a little fragile and will break eventually after opening and closing the case for some time.
