    Must-have for the technician

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Has many of the oddball screw head sizes that the hardware tech will need at some point. From cell phones to blu-ray players, this covers about 80% of what you'll need. A very tidy little package that has threads pre-lubricated for you for easy access.
    Cons:
It doesn't have protected torx heads. That would have been nice. A set of protected torx can cover both protected and unprote...

    Excellent little scale

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Batteries were included with mine!!! I decided to use high output alkaline batteries instead, but you can get going right out of the box! Has multiple measurement scales so those of us who prefer measurements given to us in Church of England won't be flum...
    Cons:
Construction is not quite as solid as expected and the unit is a little smaller than I expected. It also takes several seconds...

Convert a common cable to an obscure one

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Quality is good and it does as it says. I've had a hard time finding m-m USB cables for external hard drives and this solves that problem by making any m-f now do what you wish!
    Cons:
No real cons. If there was some clamp to hold the connectors fast that would be nice, but then again, that's not a fault in th...

Does as it says on the tin

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
For dealing with trigram screw heads that seem to be getting more popular with all types of vendors, not just Wii. Some external hard drives have case screws with these heads. This helps take care to open them right up!
    Cons:
For me, it's the small handle, but for some that would be a plus. It depends on what you want in your toolbox or work bench.

    A rare miss for DX

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Excellent concept and has a small red light. The light is bright enough to provide some ambient light in a very dark environment. Outer case has good construction.
    Cons:
Unfortunately, the gears on my unit slipped under the slightest load. Some of the teeth must have broken or mis-aligned becaus...

    Excellent torch for little money

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Feels heavy, solid and well constructed. I'm using it with SKU # 05639 (CR123A batteries) and it is INCREDIBLY bright. Core beam is bright but there is enough dispersion around the edges to give you a nice spot at 3 feet. Brightness is not a problem. Th...
    Cons:
The "SOS" mode is INSANELY slow, almost to the point of being useless. I don't think that the "SOS" mode is all that useful an...

Excellent value for what you get

posted by SirDeath on 11/15/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Excellent price for CR123A type batteries. They work well for what they do, but I'd use them for torches or low-end cameras.
    Cons:
They are a little lower powered than their "brand name" cousins, but at literally a fraction of the price. You might be able t...

Good for old and new to interface

posted by SirDeath on 10/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This is a great thing to have if you have a new machine without a serial port but you use a serial modem to connect to the internet. I have a reliable RS-232 modem that gets me on the internet when DSL breaks. It does its job great for that! Speed is goo...
    Cons:
Drivers on the chipset makers website will not work for some reason. Use the drivers on the included CD and you will be fine. ...

A must have for many cell phone owners

posted by SirDeath on 10/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Well built and inexpensive adapter that works with your commonly found everywhere mini USB cable. Everyone's got a few of mini-USB cables lying around and with cell phones starting to standardise around micro USB this is even more necessary. The build qual...
    Cons:
I can't really think of any. Even though a regular micro USB cable may be only a few cents more, with an adapter, any cable is...

    Solid HDMI converter

posted by SirDeath on 10/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Solid one piece construction and gold plated contacts. Seems to work with both the "old style" 24+5 as well. Connections are good and tight.
    Cons:
Connections are a little tricky plugging into the HDMI "blind". Other than that, no real negatives.
