    Nice torch

posted by Slugsie on 05/16/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Sturdy, and mostly well made. The pump action beam focus has a nice smooth action. The bright setting is nice and bright, the dim provides a good light that is perfect for reading etc. The strobe setting ... strobes. The beam is very even at maximum angle, ...
    Cons:
Threading on the tail cap is a bit 'gritty', so that detracts from the quality feel. Also the large clip actually makes it hard...

Very bright for it's size and power source.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Produces a very bright light, which can easily be controlled thanks to the 6 modes. The SOS mode would be very handy for anyone who might find themselves in remote locations at night. Great build quality, although see below.
    Cons:
Whilst the 6 modes are useful, the method of switching between them is a pain, and makes using this torch as a general purpose ...

    Pros:
I love these torches. Very sturdily built, and very very bright, especially when you consider that they run off a single AA battery, and still give a good long working life. I have had many friends simply amazed at how much light it can generate from such a...
    Cons:
Very little. The threads can feel a little course when screwing them back together, but a bit of grease helps that along just f...

Excellent diving light if you're on a budget

posted by Slugsie on 01/26/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I needed a good diving light, but I couldn't afford the silly money that some of them see to go for. Found this and figured it was exactly what I needed, and oh boy was I right. It produces a superbly bright beam of light with a useful beam spread and a nic...
    Cons:
The magnetic switch, whilst mostly easy to use, has two problems. 1. The markings can be very hard to read in all but ideal lig...

    Nice little plasma ball

posted by Slugsie on 01/26/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
What can be said about this little thing. Plasma balls have fascinated me since I was a child, the way they gently swirl around producing beautiful patterns always mesmerised me. Then when you touch it the patterns are attracted to your fingers, and suddenl...
    Cons:
I've had mine for nearly 2 years now, and it's been on almost constantly for that time. Maybe its getting worn out, maybe the g...

Nice easy to use shutter timer

posted by Slugsie on 01/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I had built my own shutter timer that worked well enough, but was bulky and the batteries didn't last all that long. It's now been replaced by this device which is small, light, and lasts a couple of months off a single CR2032 coin cell battery. Even withou...
    Cons:
    None really.

    Works as it should

posted by Slugsie on 01/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I use it in an EOS 60D. It's recognised just fine by the camera, and it's operation is correctly tracked in the battery options. Life span appears to be basically identical to the official Canon battery that came with the camera. Fits perfectly, charges pro...
    Cons:
None, unless you really must have a Canon badge on it.

    Nice bright LED strip

posted by Slugsie on 01/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Nice bright LEDs. Easy to control from an Arduino through some transistors. Individual LEDs are nice and bright.
    Cons:
Connecting wires a far too short, and the plastic mount has a very pronounced bow in the middle (over 1cm out of line). Lightin...

    Reasonably good quality

posted by Slugsie on 01/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Tips seem reasonably resistant to rounding off which is the most important thing with this sort of tool. The handles are easy to grip even with oily hands. Nice clear labelling on the sides to you know which size you are picking up.
    Cons:
The grub screw that holds the tip into the handle has a tendency to come undone. Not a problem re-tightening it on 3 out of 4 o...

Excellent, cheap, easy to fit, works very well

posted by Slugsie on 01/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Lots of nice bright LEDs. You can choose which ones to fit where - I went for all white at the front and the coloured ones to the rear. Flashing patterns and a bit of bling and fun. Generous amount of wire on each LED so should easily fit most 1:8 scale car...
    Cons:
The mode switch button tends to act like it was pressed multiple times, so switching between modes it a little awkward sometimes.
