    An Actually Useful Gimmick

posted by Zeleni on 01/14/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
The watch itself is resonably solidly built, not too light and not too heavy, with a very springy lid-opening spring. Solid winding knob. Keeps the time well for a watch of this class (mine went 40 seconds ahead in 30 days).
    Cons:
The chain, however, is thin and fairly easily broken. Easily fixed, too, but that won't prevent you from losing the watch.

    Low-Key Functionality

posted by Zeleni on 01/14/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Greatly improves the grip on this rather slippery phone. Fits perfectly, and all the holes are in the right places. The power and volume buttons remain easy to press. Makes the menu and back capacitive keys harder to press accidentally. Transparent, so it's...
    Cons:
    None.

    A Nice Watch

posted by Zeleni on 11/27/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Looks very nice, a lot better than you'd expect from a <$20 watch. I mean, *really* nice Steel case, glass (not plastic) dial window. Mostly real leather band. Can be wound using the knob, if you're not the type who waves the arms around much. Doesn't se...
    Cons:
The fairly useless 'tachyometre' detracts from its elegance. The outer band seems to be made of synthetic material. Must be wou...

posted by Zeleni on 11/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Very good quality materials, feels solid and well fitted. While the edge isn't sharp enough to easily cut paper, it's long enough to provide leverage and perform its (supposedly) intended duty. Also looks neat on a bookshelf.
    Cons:
Not particularly sharp. And I haven't been able to find a to-scale action figure of Liv Tyler anywhere...

    Well, it's bigger...

posted by Zeleni on 11/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
By my completely unscientific and fairly short test, 50-75% greater capacity than the standard battery. The back cover fits well. Doesn't increase the phone weight all that much, it's 32 g heavier than the standard battery.
    Cons:
Not anywhere near the advertised capacity. 3200-3600 mAh seems like a more realistic estimate.

    Hammer Your Foes

posted by Zeleni on 05/04/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Very good quality materials, feels solid and well fitted. While the edge isn't sharp enough to easily cut paper, it's long enough to provide leverage and perform its (supposedly) intended duty. Also looks neat on a bookshelf.
    Cons:
The very dull edge. Also doesn't glow blue when there are orcs nearby, but that could be because I didn't have any orcs to test...

    Perfect for Optimus 2X, Too!

posted by Zeleni on 04/02/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
High quality material, could really fool you into thinking it's real leather. Neat stitching. Generally well made. Understated and stylish. The Optimus 2X fits perfectly. And the price is just unbeatable.
    Cons:
Seems like it might be a bit too small for the Galaxy S2, though...

Only if You Really Need a Case Like This

posted by Zeleni on 04/02/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
The artificial leather does a very good job of not looking plasticky. The camera opening is in the right place. The clasp isn't too obtrusive.
    Cons:
The 'leather' flip part is significantly wider than the plastic back the phone fits into, making it uncomfortable to hold. The ...

    Double the Everything

posted by Zeleni on 04/02/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
About doubles the battery life compared to the stock battery. The back case is the same nice velvety brown (maybe a bit more velvety) as the original, fits snuggly and has the camera and flash holes in exactly the right places. Depending on your preferences...
    Cons:
There, of course, is a trade-off. It about doubles the thickness and weight of the phone. The phone won't fit into tight cases,...
