    Nice soft white colour

posted by bhassett on 04/26/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
The colour is very nice, with no blue glare that some LEDs have. The strip is covered by a soft transparent gel. The strip can be cut every 50mm (approx 2 inches) to create shorter strips. The + and - solder pads are available and labeled every 50mm and the...
    Cons:
The components are visible through the soft gel, so you may need some translucent material as a cover if the strip will be used...

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
The build quality is very good. All expected features are available, including downloading apps from the Google Play store. The screen and touchscreen are excellent. Battery life is very good.
    Cons:
Instructions are only included in Chinese. If you have already used another Android tablet you should have no problem, otherwis...

Very good replacement for 50W halogen GU10

posted by bhassett on 11/28/2011 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Very good brightness and colour, no strange blue, yellow or green colours. Same brightness as a 50 watt halogen bulb.
    Cons:
Lens holder (metal part) is not firmly joined to the main body and can come loose when removing the bulb from a socket. Do not ...

Very versatile adaptor for US, China and Australia

posted by bhassett on 12/16/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
The prongs rotate to suit parallel-type (USA/Canada) or V-type (Australia). The socket is listed as UK, but seems to accept almost any type of plug, it definitely works with 2-pin european plugs. Build quality is good, and the indicator light is useful.
    Cons:
Minor problems with British Standard plugs which have a plastic sleeve on the live and neutral pins. There may not be a valid c...

    Works with Ubuntu

posted by bhassett on 12/16/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This is probably the cheapest 802.11b/g adaptor that I can find. Verified working with WPA2 on an 802.11g network. Build quality seems good.
    Cons:
This would never win a beauty contest. The unit is big, square and very plain. Because the unit is big, it will not fit if your...

    Cheap but useful

posted by bhassett on 12/14/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
It may be cheap, but it is functional. If you need an emergency charging solution, this pack will give you what you need to charge from a car or from a PC. The rewinding cable on the car charger means that you don't have a messy cable in your glovebox. The ...
    Cons:
Build quality is very cheap. The rewind spring on the car charger is very strong and needs to be used with care. The USB cable ...

    Works well with HTC Desire

posted by bhassett on 12/13/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Fits the HTC Desire perfectly, even though the packaging refers only to the HTC G7. Surface is very nice, good smooth action with no loss of control.
    Cons:
Includes a cloth to clean the screen, but this is not the best quality and leaves some particles behind. Better to use a standa...

    Very good microphone

posted by bhassett on 09/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
A nice-looking microphone, good build quality. Pickup range is approx 1 metre (3 feet) for normal speech. Therefore it is best suited for single-person use, for example Skype calling.
    Cons:
(not really a con) The flexible microphone wastes a lot of my time, because I am always playing with it. Just like a stress rel...

    Works OK

posted by bhassett on 09/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Good build quality. Includes daylight sensor to turn IR leds off during the day. Power input (12v, approx 100mA) is by a standard 2-pin connector (0.1 inch apart). The plastic cover of the connector can be pulled off to expose the two pins if you don't have...
    Cons:
The +/- for the power connector is not marked, but the unit accepts reverse voltage without any damage.

    Perfect for microcontroller projects

posted by bhassett on 09/08/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
I had no trouble using it with any Operating System. Works in Ubuntu without any drivers, shows as a ttyUSB device. To use in Debian or any similar Linux, you may need to add the standard modules usbserial and pl2303. To use in XP or Vista, insert the suppl...
    Cons:
There is absolutely no user guide. The serial port is not officially RS232 because it only supports positive voltages. However ...
