Excellent card reader for the price (fast!)

posted by diredesire on 09/08/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Completely integrated design ( no need to plug in a cable) Plug and play USB 2.0 (FAST transfer speeds, much better than other readers on DX) Supposedly this uses the: Realtek RTS5158 which is one of the faster/fastest rated at this site: http://www.hjregge...
    Cons:
The footprint is a little bit bigger than I usually like, but the quality is excellent. The build is all plastic, but i have lo...

    SLOW card reader, avoid.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This card reader works, and with a lot of formats. The build quality is good, and the supplied cable is adequate.
    Cons:
This thing is SLOW. Sub 1.1 transfer rates, with often dropped connections. This is not computer specific, this happens on mult...

    Excellent remote for the price!

posted by diredesire on 07/09/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Excellent remote for the price. The button is tactile, but I wish it were clicky. The tolerance for the connector is excellent, fits snugly in my 30D. The remote acts just like the canon version, with a long exposure mode possible.
    Cons:
I wish the button was one of those SMD "clicky" types, but I'm not going to complain at ALL, especially for the price...

Good knock off, no issues from this user!

    Pros:
This hood (which is the flat type, not the bayonet mount) is a solid copy of the canon hood. It does its job, and it fits very snugly. People, stop paying so much for a piece of plastic, the only MAJOR difference is that there is the canon genuine logo prin...
    Cons:
There is no "felt" lining like in a canon OEM hood, but WHO CARES? You're not going to be shooting your 100mm macro a...

Cheap imitation of another light, does it's job.

posted by diredesire on 07/09/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This light is pretty darn bright. The build quality is not the best, but it gets the job done. The mount is solid.
    Cons:
This thing uses inconvenient batteries, a few AA cells would work better, and they'd probably be cheaper to source, and longer ...

Decent quality screen protector, why not?

posted by diredesire on 07/09/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Overall, this product does what it says. It places a plastic film on the screen to protect your LCD from scratches from the stylus. It is easy to install, and it doesn't kill the brightness of your LCD.
    Cons:
The protector scratches quite a bit. It's not visible when the DS is on, though, so I really don't care.

Good, cheap, and best of all, it works!

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Simply put, this thing works. It can charge your Nintendo DS via USB. I haven't used it for anything else, but it certainly is more portable than the power brick, and it can help clean up some clutter around your room.
    Cons:
None, as far as I've experienced. The worst that can happen with this cable is that it charges more slowly compared to the regu...
