Works but barely fits protected 18650s

posted by electrum on 07/01/2011 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
*Takes 18650s *Torch is surprisingly bright but if you're using 18650s you probably have your own torch? *Good battery status indication *Will fit a protected 18650 in an emergency *light weight
    Cons:
    * No micro usb adapter * You can fit a protect 18650 in there. BUT how many times will you get away with this before it breaks?...

    Installed in a DIY projector

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
In comparison to a 400W metal halide, using the stock 100W PSU off dx: *Relatively instant turn on (1 second), no heat up or cool down periods. *Optics do not need cooling. *I ran a totally passive system with no fans (big custom aluminium heatsink filled ...
    Cons:
*The LED is 8000 lumens vs 36,000 lumens of a 400W MH. Even an end of life 400W MH lamp is brighter despite the LED not needing...

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    - Very bright - Lasts about 1 hour at full power and doesn't overheat - seems waterproof -'Pill/ enclosed metal driver board' screws into casing meaning good heat transfer - light output does not seem to drop dramatically over time.
    Cons:
    - Cloudy P7 LED lens looks like it should have have not passed quality control - Electrically not robust; * Cap spring terminal...

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
It actually seems to work with 2 devices e.g. cellphone and music player. Although switching between isn't seamless it does work. Audio quality for music is great! You can charge it while using it.
    Cons:
pairing devices is not intuitive. My GSM cellphone does the ditditdit ditditdit daaaaaaaaaaah while making a call etc and the d...

    It works

posted by electrum on 07/02/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
It charges the DX batteries I bought for my treo 680 as well as the original battery successfully.
    Cons:
takes a long time to charge - 4 hours plus. Looks water damaged? clean on the outside but inside, one of the LED legs had some ...

    not bad

posted by electrum on 07/02/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Capacity is not much less than the (3 yr old?) original battery (see other thoughts) Orig battery - 3 1/2 hours DX batt #1 - est 2.5-3 hours DX batt #2 - est 2.5-3 hours DX batt #3 not tested Battery capacity indicator works somewhat.
    Cons:
No low battery warning on the first charge at least; Phone goes all the way to dead flat and in 1/2 batteries did not allow the...

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
    Cheap
    Cons:

Looks nice but not bright for the price.

posted by electrum on 01/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Looks very nice, just like the pictures. Glow does not look completely even but it looks pretty darn good with the frosted case.
    Cons:
Based on the quick and dirty tests I did, this 5W LED did not seem brighter than the 3W star version that is on here. (it will ...

    Best value on DX

posted by electrum on 01/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Cheap and bright tri-colour LED There is another 5W tri-colour LED on here which I also bought. In terms of raw light output it is about the same. Perhaps it is the same die with a heatsink? If you shine this on a flat surface it looks fantastic, you can on...
    Cons:
As stated by everyone check the polarity. Mine were all the same, labelled around the wrong way on the board. Looks ugly compar...

    Great flood light!

posted by electrum on 01/09/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Looks smaller than the photo. The brightness of the spot makes it seem like it isn't amazingly powerful as other torches, but this torch puts out a lot of light in a big area, rather than just one tiny spot. No need to wave your torch around to light an are...
    Cons:
low light level is a lot dimmer but still much to powerful to read books by. Think of it as a power saving mode only. Unreliabl...
