    Good IR module for DIY

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Works like a charm with any IR remote, the range seems to vary a bit between 15-20 meters, which is great for the price. The soldering is neat and seems solid. Easy to just stick into a breadboard and wire up to Arduino and similar, and your project has a w...
    Cons:
As with many other modules or electronic DIY products on DX, there is no datasheet. Maybe not necessary for this one as it is a...

Nice looking with a 3D woven pattern

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
It looks real and neat, and the preapplied glue seems to be sufficiently strong and durable, and so does the finish and pattern. It's easy to cut into the pieces you want, and with a bit of heat from a hairdryer or similar, it's easy to bend it around shape...
    Cons:
It might take a little bit of effort to straighten out after you receive it, I got mine rolled up.

Cheap, easy and useful for simple audio output

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
As said above these are cheap, you get five of them for the price of peanuts, and they're great if you need any sort of audible alarm or similar. Perhaps for temperature, humidity, motor stall or any other time you might encounter an event you want to be al...
    Cons:
The leads are very small, and threaded, not easy to plug into breadboard or arduino.

Cheap and good pots, great for DIY electronics

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
For a buck and a half these are something you almost just have to toss in your cart. They are very useful, either to replace resistors you've run out of or for trimming to precise values not included in the standard values of static resistors, or for adjust...
    Cons:
Not really a con, but some of those I recieved had bent pins, though that was probably due to some rough times during postal ha...

Simple, cheap and useful for electronic DIY

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Neat solution on a board that easily can be bolted to a panel or similar. Smooth operation and quite ergonomic knob as well. Soldering seems to be solid. These are simple to use and shouldn't take more than a few seconds even for newbies to set up, just sho...
    Cons:
There was no datasheet provided, and though this product is so simple one doesn't really need one, I'm still going to symbolica...

Cheap and indispensable for bigger breadboard projects

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
As said in my summary, these do really simplify using breadboards for larger projects, especially since they're flexible. These are a lot easier than trying to find the right length and bending the solid ones all over the place, perhaps even breaking them. ...
    Cons:
The leads are a bit thin, actually makes them a bit easier to stick into the breadboard, but they are quite loose when used in ...

Really good servo for a great price

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
These where even smaller and lighter than I had imagined, yet their power doesn't disappoint me. I supply these with 5 volts and they do have some serious torque for their size, and they don't seem to draw that much current even when stalled. I haven't yet ...
    Cons:
I've ordered a few of these, and one of the received units didn't really seem to do the full 180 degrees, but rather 160-170 de...

    Good product for good price

posted by enigmawings on 11/08/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
As said these are very cheap, in stores around here you get a 5-pack of the most inexpensive for 10$. Judging by those I received that worked, these are pretty good and do smell pretty strong of hydrogen sulfide, kind of like rotten eggs.
    Cons:
Of the five I received, only two worked properly. All of them inflated, four of them burst, and two of them smelled strong and ...

One of the best deals on this site :)

posted by enigmawings on 07/24/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
This is of course not a genuine Arduino-board, but a legitimate and fully functional clone at a fraction of the original price. The board is perfectly manufactured and looks almost identical to the real thing, with an exception of a few components like the...
    Cons:
I can't honestly think of any, even after rigorous comparison between this board and the original. One just has to remember to...

    A decent and cheap keychain

posted by enigmawings on 07/18/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
The keychain is quite cheap, but still made in machined aluminium which means no rust or corrosion and as seen on the picture it comes eloxated and shiny in random colors. The locking claws mechanism is secure and shouldn't open or come loose by accident,...
    Cons:
These keychains are available in different seizes, and the smaller ones aren't as sturdy as the bigger ones, and since aluminiu...
