    Fantastic Arduino starter kit.

posted by gastewart on 08/12/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Arduino Uno v2 with Atmega328P-PU and Atmega8U2 USB-to-serial chip. Board appears to be well made. Plenty of parts to play with, far more than kits twice the price. Comes in a plastic box with room for all of the parts.
    Cons:
The only con so far, after testing almost everything: the plastic cover on the power plug for the battery pack is flimsy. Tryin...

    Pros:
Makes fancy patterns when cutting paper. Fun for kids. All plastic design makes cutting relatively safe.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Native linux support for USB2.0 and Firewire ports. Comes with a USB to nokia style power cable (which I think people misunderstand it's use). The cables purpose is to provide power to the USB ports from another existing USB port. The card is a 3.3v pcmcia ...
    Cons:
Sticker is a bit cheap, and wont stay stuck down, should probably remove before it gets stuck in notebook. The USB power inject...

    10" laptop case

posted by gastewart on 10/01/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Reasonable quality neoprene laptop carry case. Sufficient to protect a mini notebook or netbook when carried.
    Cons:
The dimensions listed are accurate: 12.2" x 9.45", but a 10" netbook swims in this case. It is far too big.

Good Quality Active USB 2 extension

posted by gastewart on 10/01/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
This USB cable is "active", meaning that it uses power drawn from the USB port to boost the signal over the 5 metre extension. An external harddisk with power supply was able to reach USB 2.0 "high speed" (480Mbit). Tested OK with bus po...
    Cons:
Not enough power to run a bus powered 2.5" HDD drive. This is to be expected though, power loss over 5 metres is significa...
