Summary? We don't need no stinking summary!

posted by gearbox on 07/07/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Easy to use: Pull the tab to close the battery connection, flip the toggle and snap in over your kid's head. Good price for a superhero identity for your child or girlfriend's little semi-brother.
    Cons:
Kids get bored with toys quickly. Don't expect this to steal the show.

Not quite as good as I was expecting, but good.

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Pretty bright, useable low and high modes. Nice beam profile due to stippled reflector. Seems fairly rugged, fairly well heat-sinked. Machining seems well-spec'ed.
    Cons:
The switch must be positively pressed. No simple tap to turn it on, this thing almost has to be held in both hands. It's harder...

    Good general-purpose light

posted by gearbox on 07/04/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Moderately bright. Useful output levels. Can operate with common AA batteries. Can operate with 1 or 2 cells. Good beam shape, no artifacts. Stippled reflector and glass lens.
    Cons:
Doesn't seal tightly against O-rings, but is tight enough for splashes. Switch is a bit too sensitive -- accidental mode change...

Try it, but don't expect a miracle

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It's inexpensive, compact and it fits well. Tint doesn't change much.
    Cons:
Doesn't diffuse a whole lot except past intermediate distances.

    Very bright, very affordable.

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Very bright. Wide input voltage range. Fits most Suref*re lights, P60 or P90. Great price, good tint, good throw, good spill, good uniformity, free shipping. Act now.
    Cons:
Had to screw around with the spring to get it to fit in a P90 light (SF D3 or 9P). Removing it completely worked best. Fits a P...

    I'm glad I got them

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I totally understand the inner workings! These things have phenomenal retentivity and, naturally, low permeability! Yes, but in all actuality they are cheap and very powerful. Impress your friends by demagnetizing their ATM cards!* Prank your boss by erasin...
    Cons:
One broke. Be careful you don't let them >SNAP< together because they are brittle. That's 5% of my magnets wasted! I take...

    Great price for spares

posted by gearbox on 06/12/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Ten for less than half a gallon of gas! That statement will be true late this year, mark my words. I'm using mine for that digital calipers old on DX. It started blinking and whispering things to me...which I couldn't understand 'cause it was in Chinese. So...
    Cons:
    Uh...Hmmm...it's....no, nothing wrong with them.

    It BURNS... through fuel quickly

posted by gearbox on 06/12/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It seems solidly build and burns with the heat of a thousand suns or something approximating something pretty ouchy. The thumb-switch opens the cap, so it's a quick one-hand deal.
    Cons:
Stupid LEDs. I'm too lazy to figure out how to break, er...disconnect them, and letting the power run down would mean that the ...

May as well get a handful

posted by gearbox on 06/12/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It's cheap, [relatively] bright, compact, and good to have on hand. Battery included!
    Cons:
It's made from plastic, but carving it from granite or scandium might raise the cost so I'll let it slide.

    Quick review

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Simple. Good beam shape, no artifacts.
    Cons:
    Not a pocket-burning moon-blaster. (Medium output).
