    Pros:
It works just like you would imagine. It has both pointer and slide changer (both forward and backwards) and it works plug-and-play on windows 7. very useful and sits well in my hand.
    Cons:
the build quality isn't so great, the battery chamber lock feels a little cheap. also it uses specific 23A battery which isn'...

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This bag is very useful. It has room enough for: flash, hotshoe stand, gels, spare battery pack. It takes all the stuff I need to use my flash in any situation all in one bag. No longer need to remember which back my batteries/gels are. Also it has a stra...
    Cons:
Since the gels and batteries go on the bottom it is a bit long. Sometimes when you want to fit it into a shorter container it i...

    Awesome CHEAP one-power-level flash

posted by larking on 11/21/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
very light, uses just 2AA's and gives a pretty decent power. It has about 1/4 power of my SB700 and it costs under $10! Combined with 8201 it will work with any camera that can shoot manual flash, giving you a cheap, light, off camera flash for under $15.
    Cons:
It doesn't have any power control, so you have to set it up, and then change aperture, ISO or the flash-subject distance. If yo...

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
The main advantage of this little thing is that it is CHEAP. You can put together a setup of this and 11402 and have a fully manual off camera strobe for $15. bonus: you can use it on any old manual flash you have lying around. It can instantly boost your...
    Cons:
if you already have some flash system that works in TTL you will not be able to use it since the preflashes trigger this one to...

    Awesome batteries for hotshoe flash

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
These are the kind of batteries that camera-gear salesmen always recommend, and for good reason. They last a LONG time and they don't discharge while in the bag. You will need to shoot at full power for quite a while to go through a set of these. And since ...
    Cons:
They are not cheap. Comparing them to prices here it is not a huge discount (lots over other stuff on DX can go as far as 1/2 o...

Pretty good deal as far as I can see

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It is actually really well built (some exceptions below) and does it's job well. Has a connector both for tripod screw and for light stand (I guess 1/2'' unthreaded). There's a place for an umbrella and the whole thing can swivel forward and backward or rot...
    Cons:
The top part that holds the flash came apart after I played with it... and I can fit it back properly. Doesn't matter, the top ...

Awesome little gadget if you need a spare connector

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
It is really cheap. It is well built. It connects to a tripod (double duty as light stand once you have on of these). It has a hole for the locking pin the Nikon flash has, so you can lock your flash in place without needing to screw stuff on and off. I...
    Cons:
non whatsoever. If you can think of any use for a spare one, get it it's so cheap.

Basic stuff for anyone serious about getting good lighting

posted by larking on 08/12/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This reflector is really bread and butter stuff. Either when using flash or in daylight (even indoors it has some effect). Gets some light on the far side of your subject without needing another flash. But it, you won't regret it. The silver/gold/black o...
    Cons:
It is a bit more expensive than what I expect. The elastic part pops out really strongly when you unfold it, be careful when it...

Very useful for combining with other tripod connectors

posted by larking on 08/12/2012 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
In itself it's not very useful, unless you want to connect a flash to a point-and-shoot that doesn't have a hot-shoe. Otherwise it works great with the monopod and clamps you can find on this site. Basically anything connecting with a tripod screw you c...
    Cons:
On its own it doesn't do much. You will need a couple of these, a couple of monopods and a clamp or two to start using these as...

Don't recommend this, except as backup filter when travelling

    Pros:
It is really cheap, it works nicely and you might almost think it is just as good as a brand filter but...
    Cons:
Does cast green ghosts in some lighting conditions. I didn't keep using it after I saw these ghosts, but I am sure these will...
