    Inexpensive I2C LCD

posted by ohyva on 11/08/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Very inexpensive and works as expected. I used this together with the SKU121356 16 x 2 character LCD display module. The standard LiquidCrystal_I2C library works ok when initialised correctly. The pin assingment in this adapter board is RS pin 0, RW pin 1,...
    Cons:
The software download address given does not work. But as explained above the standard LiquidCrystal_I2C library work when used...

Small 1-wire inductors for power filtering

posted by ohyva on 06/10/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Clean construction, wire coiling seems even enough for my power line filtering application. Tinned wire ends easy to solder.
    Cons:
Only one wire not the double as said in the spec and shown in pics (and I checked the SKU to be the correct 143490 in the bag)....

    Aid for SMD chip handling

posted by ohyva on 06/10/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Small, inexpensive, does what it is supposed to do. 4 heads of different size helps in handling various size of SMD chips. Heads easy to change, no tools required.
    Cons:
Even the smallest head too big to allow handling of the smallest resostors and capacitors. One of the heads (the smallest one) ...

    Solid small keypad

posted by ohyva on 05/28/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Keypad feels pretty solid. Key feeling and responce OK. Good numeric keypad for small DIY projects, and some extra keys for control.
    Cons:
No documentation, so I'd to measure the configuration (8 pins from left to right (the outmost pins not used) col 1-* col 2-0 co...

    Cable for proto board work

posted by ohyva on 03/06/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
I've not done wire wrapping for several years so my comments are for using this wire a soldered wiring with protoboards. The wire is thin enough and very easy to bend in angles to place between components in the protoboard. The insulation is soft enough to ...
    Cons:
The insulation does not tolerate heat of soldering as well as some other harder wire wrap wires I have used for this same purpo...

Great kit for various connection needs

posted by ohyva on 03/06/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
High quality connectors with cold plating. PCB ok and the fit of components to PCB is tight enough to allow easy soldering. You can make any size adapters upto 2x20 pins by cutting the female headrers, but you have to sacrifice a pin pair when cutting. The ...
    Cons:
Holes in the PCB too small to fit in with standard 0,7mm square header pins so ideas needing these has to be forgotten. Two 2x2...

Very affordable little display for Arduino

posted by ohyva on 02/20/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
First and foremost the price is perfect. Mechanical structure is seems good . Needing only one analog input for the four keys is a big bonus when using this with Arduino Uno. Very clear text display. Contrast adjustment with a variable resistor, backlight a...
    Cons:
One or the buttons in my board did not work reliably. After putting a replacement in the board the operation is now perfect. LC...

Just like original Arduino Uno - just half the price

posted by ohyva on 02/20/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Quite impossible to distinguish from the original Arduino Uno board I have. Half the price I need to pay (at least) when bought locally. All the sketches I tested worked just as expected. The USB cable was a big positive surprise, a bit short only 50cm but ...
    Cons:
None really, unless you need a longer USB cable then the just 50cm included.

    Set of decent banana sockets

posted by ohyva on 01/25/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Solid mechanical structure. You can separate the metal socket from the plastic bode which may make the installation easier, and you can make your special bodies if so wished. The banana plug goes fully inside the socket which is safe.
    Cons:
The plastic body casting is not perfect. This is though only an aesthetic problem and does not affect the functionality or usab...

Good set of decent banana sockets

posted by ohyva on 01/25/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Solid mechanical structure. You can separate the metal socket from the plastic bode which may make the installation easier, and you can make your special bodies if so wished.
    Cons:
The socket is a bit too low and the banana plug does not go fully inside. A few millimeters is left visible, so you have to mak...
