    Small form factor light

posted by rcoville on 02/22/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Small and lightweight. Will not take up any room at all in your pocket, glovebox, etc. The grey finish is a nice change from all the black ones that are so common. It is bright enough for a single-cell torch, but isn't going to set any records. (But no one ...
    Cons:
Will NOT work with a protected cell (at least not 19627). The light requires either unprotected or a primary cell to function....

    Surprisingly better than expected

posted by rcoville on 02/22/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Lightweight, with a solid lock-up. No play in blade when locked. All metal parts (except for the front pin) came black finished. Clip is adjusted just right (not too tight like many from DX are). Blade is fairly sharp and a nice design for everyday chores y...
    Cons:
Someone with a large hand might find this handle design a little cramped. It fits me fine, but I have fairly small hands. 3 of...

Cheap, cheap cheap, but does the job

posted by rcoville on 02/18/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Cheap, cheap cheap, but does the job. Looks OK sitting on the desk. Does not seem to cause as much feedback issues as some other mics I have used.
    Cons:
Have not been able to find any so far.

    Nice, cheap webcam

posted by rcoville on 02/18/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
I bought this for use with Skype to talk to relatives, etc. It plugged it (XP) and worked straight off with no playing about or driver problems. It seems to be fairly sensitive and works in relatively low-light conditions. The design allows it to either ...
    Cons:
The clip's spring is relatively weak and requires at least 1/4" of thickness to attach to. Less and it falls off.

    Crap .... absolute garbage.

posted by rcoville on 02/18/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
None. Absolutely, and positively none. Unless of course all you want is a flashing blue light so everyone will THINK you're wearing a bluetooth earset.
    Cons:
After charging it for the two hours needed to get the battery up, it took a LOT of playing around for it to finally broadcast s...

Limited usefulness in a small knife

posted by rcoville on 02/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
This knife is a copy of the Chad Los Banos Subcom knife by Boker Plus. It is solidly made. Opens relatively smoothly and locks up solidly. Blade is fairly sharp as delivered. The left side handle is G10 over a steel liner. The lock side is all steel. (...
    Cons:
The back of the blade came nicked in several places (done during manufacturing and prior to the black finish being applied) and...

Pretty good, but does not beat the R2

posted by rcoville on 02/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
This is a good, solid drop-in module. I bought it for a 4-cell Ultrafire WF-501D. With 4 - Trustfire 16340 batteries (the protected grey-jacket units) it is bright, like others have reported. There were no length or size issues dropping it in.
    Cons:
In the past, I have run this torch with a R2 module (11836) and twin Trustfire TR18650 2500 mAh (blue case) batteries. It is br...

    Nice Webcam

posted by rcoville on 02/10/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Bought this so I could try out the Skype thing and chat with relatives on-line. It took only a few minutes to get it hooked up and functioning (XP SP3). Capture of video in 640 X 480 frame size is actually quite good, with only the faintest hint of jerkine...
    Cons:
The microphone is very sensitive and adjusting it to avoid feed-back is a challenge. This is the reason for the 4 under ease-o...

Makes a great light-weight travel HD

posted by rcoville on 02/04/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I bought this to put together an external HD for multimedia files. Most of the time it sits by the computer, providing additional storage space dedicated to MM files. I have had it running now for more than 4 months and it has not missed a beat, and it is u...
    Cons:
    Don't have any to report.

    Not the best, but acceptable

posted by rcoville on 02/04/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I bought 3 different sets to test. This set came in second, but not far behind the winner. They fit comfortably and have pretty decent sound, especially with a good mp3 player. Sound level is pretty fair, and reproduction seems to be fairly faithful. Lead ...
    Cons:
Other than they came in 2nd place, there really aren't any cons. Quality of build is good, and they are comfortable.
