    Very Bright.. Could be better.

posted by sparktastic on 01/27/2011 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Excellent design, with a nice deep aluminum mirrored reflector that matches the XM-L well. Probably one of the best designed tail caps for tail standing & grip too. Actually a pretty decent thrower for a large die LED. Obviously doesn't throw like a Q5 or ...
    Cons:
Relatively poor performance on a single Li-Ion battery once the terminal voltage drops below 4v. At 3.8v, output has dropped to...

    Excellent little thrower!

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Despite what the title says, this light also works well with CR123 rechargeable and primary cells! if you remove the little extender tube, CR123 cells fit right in with no problems. I guess the 14500 cells would be a better option because it means you can l...
    Cons:
    * Don't appear to be able to dissasemble the head - seems to be glued together. * The plastic optics will scratch easily. The ...

Great price for a drop-in with 5A tint

posted by sparktastic on 09/30/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Fantastic drop-in for the price. Nice natural colour rendition for outside use. Much easier on the eyes than a WH or WD Q5 or R2 emitter. Simple, single mode operation - On or off.
    Cons:
I wish this was a three mode version of this drop-in. i.e high, medium and low. Other manufacturers can make decent three mode ...

    Good four channel charger

posted by sparktastic on 09/16/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
There are not that many four individual channel chargers out there. Many battery powered toys and some other items now either use 1x or 3x AA batteries which is a pain if you only have a standard 2x or 4x charger. You are always hunting around trying to fin...
    Cons:
Would have been nice to have a 12v input for the car. Batteries and charger do tend to get fairly warm (hot?) during the fast c...

    Not really impressed!

    Pros:
I have several of the WF-502's. The '502' is a nice host for drop-ins. The spring steel clip is useful, IMHO. Feels good in the hand. Not too big, not too small - Just right.. Hmmm, someone could use that in a cereal ad...
    Cons:
I was somewhat underwhelmed by this flashlight. This is the first 'XPE' equipped flashlight that I have tried and it may well b...

Great drop in with 5A tint

posted by sparktastic on 08/19/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Great tint for outside use. As another user has already pointed out, when you go to a 'warm' tint like this, it is hard to ever go back to the cold whites. Yes the Q5's and R2's of this world put out more lumens per watt, but many of those lumans are at suc...
    Cons:
This is only a single mode emitter. When, oh when, will the driver manufacturers start making simple three mode (High, Medium &...

    One of the greats!

posted by sparktastic on 03/27/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This light has fantastic throw for a 25mm reflector. The drop-in is only mildly OP, which means a reasonably tight hotspot & great throw, with just the right amount of spill for close up work. High, medium and low modes are great, the memory function works ...
    Cons:
Useless strobe and SOS modes as usual. Although, I would have to say that the SOS mode is even more useless than normal, since...

    Nice little gift/glovebox light

posted by sparktastic on 01/23/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
As someone else already mentioned, this is an excellent little stocking filler for the price. Buy a few at the cheaper price and distribute amoung friends and relo's as birthday presents etc (saves a heap of time going shopping and they will actually get us...
    Cons:
Not blindingly bright. Useful throw is probably 25ft or so. 1 - 1.5 hrs of max brightness from a charged 2500mAH NiMh cell. Lig...

    Bright but possibly unreliable driver

posted by sparktastic on 01/02/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
I thought this module would be nice and flexible, with the 0-100%, variable light output and the R2 emitter. The driver, when working, is relatively efficient throughout it's designed volatge range. If the unit keeps working for you, it works as advertised.
    Cons:
Unfortunatly, one of the two units that arrived, worked for two days and then quit. The driver on the faulty unit ramps up the ...
