This thing is HUGE! (and heavy)

posted by techjunkie on 04/22/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
    1) Stainless Steel construction = threads that wont strip like Aluminum lights. Excellent machine work too. 2) Big 20mmx20mm reflector should gather and concentrate more light than smaller 1*CR123A lights. 3) Shorter than pictured. Body only 85mm long w...
    Cons:
    1) heavy, Heavy, HEAVY! Noticibly heaveier than the solid brass (chrome plated) UltraFire WF-C6S which even though is one of t...

posted by techjunkie on 01/14/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
perfectly small form factor. fit my application perfectly. was able to use this in my modded xbox to install a SATA drive with no problem. for that purpose alone, I'm delighted.
    Cons:
had some trouble with master/slave config when I tried this device in an old P4 PC. might not perform well with Windows OS or ...

2nd batch not as good as 1st

posted by techjunkie on 12/01/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Bright and powerful. Pretty straightforward replacement for CREE XR-E, with small challenges to focusing and power supply.
    Cons:
2nd set of boards I received were serial, not parallel. Had to scratch trace routes on board and solder together leads on each...

    Big bright spill, tight focus

posted by techjunkie on 12/01/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
focuses CREE XRE hotspot to very small, tight beam. Spill is big and very bright compared to smaller reflectors. Shallow enough to replace lucite optics in some torchs. Worked really well with MC-E emitter with its dome removed (by accident).
    Cons:
none, really Not sure how it would focus an MC-E with the dome still on it, but I expect it would create a very floody beam, af...

    Does the job, as advertised

posted by techjunkie on 11/21/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Nice high mode, very bright, pulls 1.4A from 1 16340. Nice medium and low modes too. Low is very low about 50mA and medium is somewhere right in between. Has memory as advertised, returns to same mode you left it on (instead of next mode which would be rea...
    Cons:
Modes occassionally don't switch on first try. Not sure why. SOS has long pause between each full SOS cycle. (Not what I'm us...

Liked it so much, I bought two more

posted by techjunkie on 11/20/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Quite possibly genuine Apple product, judging by ample packaging, manuals, etc. Full 1000mA output unlike other AC to USB adapters. Provides faster charge thanks to higher current.
    Cons:
    None.

    Perfect for SSC P7

posted by techjunkie on 11/20/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Focuses P7 to give awesome throw, large concentrated hotspot, and giant bright spill. Conducts heat from emitter to pill to reflector to head very well. Unmodified, drops right into WF-500 head. Modified, makes Mag C/D head into same torch as sku 14412. Ref...
    Cons:
Pill doesn't appear to be pure copper (probably is brass), which made it more difficult to cut (see other thoughts).

    Wow! That's bright!

posted by techjunkie on 11/20/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Insanely bright with a rechargeable (protected) 16340. Very compact and lightweight. Makes an awesome keychain light with a little modification.
    Cons:
Driver does not have the good kind of mode memory that returns to the last mode used. Instead, after powering off, this torch ...

posted by techjunkie on 11/19/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
All Aluminum, including pill (not brass) Inexpensive threads are smooth OP finish is nice, reflector makes nice beam pattern Aluminum pill + reflector makes for decent heatsinking compatible with P60 sized torches (26mm diameter reflector)
    Cons:
pill base does not fit full size 20mm star (but bare emitter or smaller star board are OK)

    labeled solder points, maybe regulated

posted by techjunkie on 11/19/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
this version has clearly labeled solder points for + and - very affordable good voltage input range for 1-3 NiMH or Alkaline, or 1 Li-Ion or LiFePo4 pretty standard size for CR123A flashlights (a little big for AA)
    Cons:
diameter is a little too big for AA lights on one li-ion, my MC-E emitter only drew 850mA from the battery using this driver, s...
