    Extremely bright!

posted by walker12 on 02/27/2014 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Extremely bright! 1.5 mA is quite enough for indicator if not in direct sunlight. Gives clear light even at very low current. 0.1 mA for instance. Cheaper to buy two packs of 1106 than one 1107?
    Cons:
Color temperature is very high. Beam is narrow.

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
10 DIP switches in package with 8 individual switches each. Switches can be turned on or off by a finger(nail). No tool needed. Below half price as from DigiKey. Shipping took less than two weeks.
    Cons:
A few legs on one DIP were slightly bent at arrival. Problem easily solved

Quite small for a 3A device

posted by walker12 on 02/04/2014 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:less than 1 day

    Pros:
Small (22x17 mm, 0.87"x0.67") Quite efficient chip, MP1584, with soft turn-on, current limit and adjustable switch frequency. (frequency is fixed to around 1MHz for this device) According to datasheet peak efficiency (around 88%) seems to be at 1 to 2A...
    Cons:
Adjusting resistor very small. Frequency synchronization not possible. (Not really an issue in most cases)

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Small and cheap way to get a TTL RS-232 port Has 5V power output to be used further down the line. Covered in heatshrink, adding stability and reduces tear and wear.
    Cons:
Driver must be found manually and can be hard to find! Output is TTL, not standard +/- 3 to 12V RS-232. Output is NOT inverte...

    Cheap, but something is missing

posted by walker12 on 10/14/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Very cheap! This set cost less than what I will have to pay for just one at a profi store.
    Cons:
All 8 items came in a plastic zipper bag in reality too small to get them out again. End result was several bent legs on more ...

    Simply works!

posted by walker12 on 10/08/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
Small, yet quite powerful and very energy efficient. Runs fine on 12V solar power. Built-in volume control.
    Cons:
Very small holes for input wires. Not possible to use in 'bridge'. Detecting L and R for input can be hard. You may need a heat...

    Almost plug'n play!

posted by walker12 on 06/06/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Easy to connect to speakers and power supply. No need for heat sink, at moderate use. Comes with a volume control. Build-in output filters reducing electro smog.
    Cons:
Input location is not marked too well. Connection holes for input could be larger. They only take quite small wires.

Usefull, but a little poor on tolerance

posted by walker12 on 03/28/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
14 types covering 2.7 to 10V range. 10 individual zeners for each type. Each type in a separate zipper plastic bag.
    Cons:
No markings on plastic bags. Markings on the zeners themselves are extremely tiny! Some values are outside normally accepted +/...

A good set of resistor values, but ..

posted by walker12 on 01/31/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
25 different values between 10 Ohm and 1 Meg. 20 pieces for each value. Separate zip-bag for each value. Value written in text on each.
    Cons:
A little strange selection of values, as this does not follow any E-standards known to me. This could be some weired US standar...

    Connect and read!

posted by walker12 on 01/13/2013 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 day to 1 week

    Pros:
Easy to use. Almost constant current consumption (9-13 mA, depending on display elements in use) over voltage range. Relative error about +/- 0.1V over range. Better than 0.4% in 8-16V range.
    Cons:
An average of 10.7 mA current draw may be a bit high for some applications, but this is not based on LCD! Above 17V the meter s...
