    Much better than plastic!

posted by zemike on 04/13/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Novice (still getting used to it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
These are my first maracas, so I don't have much experience with those. The first thing I noticed was the excellent build quality - smooth wood, careful carving and painting, no seams. Not a masterpiece but nice to hold and shake.
    Cons:
I had no time to conduct durability testing but looks like they are durable.

    Fragile but fun

posted by zemike on 04/13/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This is a fun toy to entertain toddlers and small kids, just make sure you don't use it near reflective surfaces. The two lasers have an inbuilt safety feature - they cutoff immediately if you grab the spinning toy. Looks like it is possible to change the b...
    Cons:
The starter is made of weak plastic - do not force it too much.

    Stylish clock

posted by zemike on 01/20/2010 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This looks like one of the cheapest alarm clocks with RGB backlight. Without backlight the screen has medium readability. With backlight the screen is perfect. The viewing angle is wider than on SKU 2998 The "light" button doesn't beep when you press it.
    Cons:
The backlight doesn't switch off by itself - you have to push the button for 2 secs. And this clock fell victim of the multimo...

    Solingen beware!

posted by zemike on 11/19/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This is my first ceramic knife, so I compared it with my Zwilling knives. To me it looks like a perfect tool for slicing tomatoes. It does an excellent job in cutting fruits and vegetables.
    Cons:
The only con is the absence of metal in the handle. Must be because of cost cutting. Also the knife is very light.

    Simple tool that works

posted by zemike on 11/16/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:General (knows how to use it) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This is a click & point IR pyrometer which is extremely easy to use - just press the button and point it where you want. The laser can be switched off, units can be Celsius or Fahrenheit. It also displays 2 temperatures - current and maximum.
    Cons:
This unit can't store the minimum temperature - only maximum. Optical resolution is 12:1 - not very good for fine measurements.

    Neat outdoor thermometer

posted by zemike on 08/03/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
Okay, I didn't intend to use this thermometer in an aquarium. I use it as a regular outdoor thermometer - I just stuck it on the clean and wet glass. According to the manual, the precision is +/- 1 degC. I didn't have the possibility to verify this claim.
    Cons:
If you stick it on dirty and dry glass it will fall.

    Neat RGB blinker

posted by zemike on 02/05/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
I don't have the previous version, but this one has two modes to switch on: instant press and twist. I opened the case and gently bent the wire to make it closer to the battery. Now if you twist the metal cover the bulb will switch on.
    Cons:
The color change program is not up to my taste. I prefer smooth transitions and this LED's program cycles through smooth transi...

    Great for netbooks

posted by zemike on 01/15/2009 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This little mouse with a retractable cord is a perfect companion for small notebooks. It works with 64-bit Vista. The mouse is comfortable to use, despite its small size.
    Cons:
The spool is not convenient - when the cord is extended the spool is in the middle of the cord and it is rather heavy. Could be...

    A safe for expensive gear

posted by zemike on 12/10/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:1 week to 1 month

    Pros:
This box was designed to protect lenses against shocks, humidity and small kids. The provided foam pads can be permanently glued to the case to protect the lens from shocks. The humidity protection doesn't work as intended - the small vacuum pump is too wea...
    Cons:
The case is hard to open initially, but I think that the latches will work out and in the future will be easier to open and clo...

    For hygrohaulics

posted by zemike on 12/10/2008 Certified Owner

Involvement:Expert (understands the inner workings) - Ownership:more than 1 month

    Pros:
This "climate monitor" can display the indoor/outdoor temperature and indoor humidity. It can also memorize max/min levels. The display is big and it has acceptable readability. Temperature coincides with what I see on two other thermometers. Humi...
    Cons:
Display is not very contrasty and the "minus" sign is hard to see.
