Question about shipment of 16340 Lithium batteries

  • Ryanwalotek Wednesday, December 24, 2014 12:41 PM Reply
I have heard that these types of batteries may be restricted from airmail service..does this mean my product wont make it too me? or is it shipped someother way? what do you do to insure delivery?

    Hi Ryan,
We customers cannot tell what goes through the minds of Postal, Customs, or Airport Security authorities’ minds but from my experience, I can tell you that luck has a lot to do with whether orders pass through or are returned to sender. I have had 18650 lithium cells sent with no problem but currently have a package containing some tiny CR2016 button cells that has been sent back twice! DX policy is to re-send returned orders by a different mail service. When that happens, you will be notified by email that a new tracking # has been issued.

From now through Chinese New Year is the slowest time of year for delivery so I would not expect an order placed last week to arrive before the end of February. If goods are returned by Customs, naturally that can add a week or two to delivery time but at least with DX, you know it will eventually arrive or you will be refunded.

Those button cells of mine were ordered Dec. 6th but seem to have passed through on the third attempt and are on their way to Australia… via Amsterdam. :)
The moral of the story is: If you MUST have lithium cells by a certain date, pay the extra and buy locally. If it’s a type that you can’t find at home and/or you’re not in a hurry, there are still bargains to be found at DX. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

DX seems to only send my packages with Dutch post (NL) now and I have never had any issues since then.
China Post was/is just being stupid with refusing packages, I had a package with a bike chain and an inflatable camping pillow returned, for being dangerous!

Lol, yep, those camping pillows can wreak havoc if they self-inflate mid-flight!
That last package of mine started out with a CP tracking #, then NL (twice) before it got through. :)
Like you, I’ve had the most innocuous items returned, and ones you’d think they would be concerned about go straight through.
