I had noticed it for sku.44905 but not the others. The thing is: Do you believe it? Will they ever do this for knives other than kitchen knives?

i didn't even realize those were steel bladed knives..... i thought they were some funky colored ceramics!

could be that they picked up some blade steel lingo from the forum and decided to use it in their descriptions!
    Howdy from Ohio!

More likely they started asking the new suppliers what kind of material their products are made, since we keep bothering them about it ;P

Had they claimed to be using a high end steel I'd have no doubt that they were full of it, but 3Cr14 is far enough on the low end that I don't see it being implausible.

Having looked at some of the suppliers that DX use for their knives those who specify the steel are saying either 420 or 420/440 or "400 series", so they're pretty much all likely to be 420, give or take.

I have been looking at websites of a lot of Chinese knife manufacturers and wholesalers and have found out what appear to be some realistic descriptions of some of the knives we would recognise from DX. Most are 420 but there are some which are 440 or even 440C (if you believe that) AND have approximate hardness values.

    Some you might recognise:
sku.32577 and others which are variations on this: 440, 56HRC
    sku.48329: 440, 57HRC
    sku.21375 in various colours: 440, 55HRC
    sku.19003 in various colours: 440, 56HRC
sku.11616 in various sizes and colours: 440, 56HRC
    sku.33987: 440c, 56HRC
    sku.37597: 440C, 57HRC
    sku.30898: 440C, 57HRC
    sku.35062: 440C, 56HRC
